About Us

Nicaragua Map BarroNica Building Products, Inc. was founded in 2000 and is focused on importing the finest, most authentic, handmade high temperature wood-fired terracotta clay tile in the world.

Our factory in Nicaragua, is located near the west end of Lake Managua, known locally as Lago Xolotlan, in a valley whose northern border is a line of volcanoes, many of which are still active. The valley's southern boundary is a range of hills made up of what has come out of those volcanoes for thousands of years. With the heavy rainfall experienced in Nicaragua, unique minerals from these hills and volcanoes have become the alluvial material found in this valley and that make up the ingredients for the clay in our tiles.

Custom roof tile drawing The sand that is used in our tiles comes from this Lake Managua and is a freshwater high silica-content sand. The minerals in the clay that we use for our tile are unique in the tile-making world because of their volcanic source, giving them high amounts of magnesium, titanium, manganese and iron. It is these minerals, when fired at high temperatures using wood not gas, that give our tiles their distinctive colors and hardness.

Our factory in Nicaragua is accustomed to responding to custom orders, making tiles of a configuration best suited to your projects. As an architect, I'm able to translate customers' needs into the drawings necessary to build molds appropriate for the making of tile that is specifically responsive your design requirements. Coordination between our offices here in the U.S. and the factory in Nicaragua insures an acceptable end product to our customers.
